CHAPTER 10

HENNESSY

I hadn’t heard from Dejah for a couple days since she came to see me in the hospital and our conversation has been fucking my head up. I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep in this damn hospital since she walked out like that. But at the end of the day I understood why she did what she did. Shit, I don’t know what the fuck I would do if I caught her legs on the shoulders of another nigga. She probably been out and about getting her little revenge anyway. Fuck it though. I can’t focus on that shit till I get home. Today, I’m getting discharged and waiting for my lil’ homie Gage to pick me up.

Gage and I used to run around the city tearing shit up back in the day. When I finally had the money put together to get my label off the ground, Gage got locked up for selling powder to an undercover narc and ended up doing some time. By the time he came home, we were both a year and some change away from turning thirty and my label was booming. I made sure my nigga was good for the price of security. I can’t front though; Gage is a fucking bonafide livewire and will shut shit down whenever he fucks with somebody he considers family. Anyway, when the nurse stepped in the room, Gage was right behind her. I grimaced when I sat up from my peaceful position on the hospital bed and turned off the TV.

“Still watching the Maury show, huh?” The nurse asked jokingly.

“Seemed to be the only thing on TV today. Once I get outta here, I’m chilling in the house and watching real TV for at least a week straight.” I responded while laughing.

“Just be glad you can get out of here and watch anything. The way you got hit you could easily not be here.” Gage spoke up.

“He’s right about that. But anyway, let’s get these papers signed. I really do think you should stay for a couple more nights, but the doctor has medically cleared you to sign yourself out. So, with the decision being yours, I already know what that choice is. I wish you well.”

The nurse handed me five papers, three to sign for my release and two for prescriptions of Percocet and muscle relaxers. I signed the discharge papers and just like that the nurse handed me copies and let me go on my way. She had one of her co-workers bring a wheelchair in the room for me to ride in to the door. Gage followed close behind until we got outside and he took it from there helping me get to his Dodge Charger. Once he got me in the car he stepped in the car on the driver’s side and we started chopping it up.

“Aight bro, what you got for me?” I asked about the information he had.
